Metal Jigs for Salmon, Rockfish and Lingcod Fishing
Metal Jigs are a very important lure category here in the Pacific Northwest. They can be used to cast off the beach for Salmon and off our rock jetties for Rockfish and Lingcod. Boat anglers use metal jigs to vertical jig for Chinook, Coho and Pink Salmon. Heavier metal jigs are a popular choice for deepwater Halibut, Lingcod and Rockfish.
Puget Pounder Jigs
Puget Pounder Jigs were created by fishermen in the Tacoma, Washington area that wanted the perfect vertical jigging lure to catch Chinook Salmon. They provide an amazing action that catches all Salmon species as well as Lingcod and Rockfish. These metal jigs are available in 1.5, 2.5, 3.5 and 4.5 ounces and are a great option for the boat, beach or pier.
P-Line Laser Minnow
The P-Line Laser Minnow is one of the most universal metal jigs that just seems to catch everything. It is one of my go-to lures when shore fishing for salmon. The Laser Minnow’s ultra flashy prism finishes make this lure a real attention getter. I have had some phenomenal days casting for Coho and Pink Salmon off Whidbey Island with the 1 ounce and 2 ounce sizes, as well as jigging up limits of Rockfish and Lingcod on the larger 3 to 6 ounce sizes on the Washington Coast.
P-Line Kokanator Jig
Like the name suggests, the P-Line Kokanator Jig was originally intended to catch Kokanee in our Western lakes and reservoirs. It actually became a crowd favorite in the Puget Sound area for Pink Salmon and is one of the best lures for catching that species when they return. The smaller sizes make them a perfect match for jigging from shallow beaches, in the slow and deep lower-river areas, and even from the boat casting to schools of Pink Salmon.
Buzz Bomb
Designed and made in British Columbia, specifically to catch everything that swims. It has become a staple salmon fishing lure in all of the Pacific Northwest and Alaska. Thread your line through the center of the Buzz Bomb, and tie on your favorite hook, using a couple beads or bumper in between. Comes with a treble hook and bumper.
Flutter Jig
Fisherman’s Gold flutter jigs, specifically in root beer, has been one of my personal favorite Rockfish and Lingcod lures. There is something about this lures rapid flutter action and that sparkly root beer color that draws in bites even when fishing with other lures is slow.
