Here’s a quick Port Townsend fishing report for you. The tides were perfect for the long run to Mid Channel Bank today. My buddy Kent invited me out and I couldn’t say no! We ran out and fished through the first half of the outgoing tide and found a few really nice Chinook.
We fished the 90′ to 110′ zone on the edge of Mid Channel, trolling as close to the bottom as we could. I ran a Silver Horde Coho Killer White Lightning behind a Pro Troll Flasher, Kent rigged a whole Red Label herring to spin, no flasher.
We hooked five, landed three, and two of those landed Chinook were really nice keepers! We released a 19 pound Wild Chinook as well! Great end to a slow first week of the Puget Sound Chinook season.
I filleted our two salmon while Kent tidied up the boat. One extra thing I wanted to share with you, was that both fish were so stuffed with small Sand Lance (Candlefish), super tiny! Most of them were the size and profile of a match stick! I think that the smaller the lure, the better off you will be up there, we saw it first hand!
