Whidbey Island is packed with well-known public beaches for salmon fishing, but Glendale Beach on the island’s southeast side remains a quiet, lesser-known option. Seattle Fishing Company’s spot guide introduces this uncrowded stretch of shoreline, where the handful of anglers in the know catch Coho and Pink Salmon in season. It’s an easy add-on if you’re already fishing nearby at Possession Point Bait Co., Possession Point State Park or Possession Beach Waterfront Park.
The guide explains how to find the park’s small gravel lot off Humphrey Road south of Clinton, plus the best timing. Coho show up along Whidbey’s east shore in late summer and early fall, joined by Pinks in odd-numbered years, and flounder can be caught year-round. The bite tends to be strongest in the hours surrounding high tide.
With a moderately sloped beach, casting metal jigs is the go-to approach, though a bobber and herring can also work when salmon are passing through.
